ProgramsBasicFor adults 16 years of age and older who desire to increase their reading skills, Literacy Volunteers of Broome/Tioga provides free, one-to-one, confidential tutoring. Students are matched with a trained volunteer tutor. They work together to define the student's goals and design lesson plans that will help students accomplish their objectives. Tutors meet with students at a mutually agreed upon time and place, usually a local library, church or school. Meetings are held once a week and last from 1-2 hours. Click here for more information. English for Speakers of Other LanguagesThis programs is for adults who are new speakers of English and are interested in improving their conversational speaking and listening skills. Tioga Adult Learning Lab (T.A.L.L.) The Tioga Adult Learning Lab is located at the Owego Free
Academy, Room 279. Lab hours are Monday through Thursday from 5:30 – 9:00 PM
and by appointment. Instruction in basic computer literacy classes and
workshops, tutoring in reading and writing, and vocational and job skills
training such as resume & cover letter formatting, typing tutorials, civil
service exam preparation are offer free of charge to anyone 16 years and
older. Students can work either one-to-one with a tutor, enroll in a class,
or use self-paced computer software. Children seeking to learn computer
skills are also welcome. TALL is a collaboration between Literacy Volunteers
of Broome and Tioga Counties, Inc., the Owego-Apalachin Central School
District, and the Tioga County Social Service. To learn more about the TALL
