Adult Learners
Where do Adult Learners Come From?
Literacy Volunteer students are adults who have not attained reading competency at the sixth grade level. They are
referred to Literacy Volunteers by friends, family, employers, neighbors, and various social agencies. Many students
respond to radio and TV spot announcements.
The Results
One student reached her goal of reading the Bible. Another student was able to find employment. Some advanced to a
GED (General Educational Development) program to work toward their equivalency diploma while others achieved their
citizenship.
